KPCL I

KPCL began its Commercial Operation with Unit I on October 12th, 1998 at its plant in Goalpara, Khulna. The plant has a generation capacity of 110 MW and was commissioned within 11 months.

KPCL began its Commercial Operation with Unit I on October 12th, 1998 at its plant in Goalpara, Khulna. The plant has a generation capacity of 110 MW and was commissioned within 11 months. By doing so it became the first Independent Power Producer (IPP) in the private sector in the country. The project was financed by IFC and World Bank. The local EPC works of the project was carried out by Neptune Commercial Ltd. (NCL), a subsidiary of United Group. With an initial power supply agreement of 15 years, which was later extended for a further 5 years term, with the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), the project was developed on a build, own & operate basis. The project consists of building 132/11 KV substation, a pump house, fuel storage tank of 15000 tons, oil tanker berthing jetty including a man-made lagoon for placement of barges.
