Today was the inauguration of the Medical Oxygen Generation Plant at M A Rashid Hospital.
Standard Chartered Bangladesh recently collaborated with United Trust to make sure that patients at M A Rashid Hospital in Jamalpur have ready access to life-saving medical oxygen.
The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated both local and global demand for oxygen and made the delivery of oxygen supplies more urgent. Ensuring access to oxygen has become a very challenging task especially in areas away from the urban centers.
To solve the issues of quality, affordability, and availability, Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh has donated a Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Medical Oxygen Generation Plant to M A Rashid Hospital. The oxygen plant’s total installed capacity of 303 litres/minute will support up to 80 ailing patients.
Naser Ezaz Bijoy, Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bangladesh, said, “Access to a steady oxygen supply can be the difference between life and death for patients at all levels of the healthcare system. For rural communities like Jamalpur, there is a ‘before’ and an ‘after’ when it comes to this oxygen generation plant. Before, patients felt the issues of scarcity at every stage of the treatment process. Now, patients and their families can rest easy with the assurance that they will receive the oxygen they need when they need it. This intervention highlights and fixes a key problem in our medical – it ensures that oxygen in produced in target areas and in doing so, makes access to oxygen reliable and sustainable. It is not a one-off donation or a reactive response to an unprecedented pandemic – instead it is an effort, on the Bank’s part, to develop and strengthen the skills, instincts, and abilities that our local organisations and communities need to truly flourish. On this Landmark occasion of UPGD, Chairman made a short deliberation on the journey of the Company this far.
Excerpts from the Chairman’s deliberation:
The One-Hundredth Board of Directors meeting of UPGDCL, lends itself a special place, in the momentous journey of the Company. I deem it, as an historic occasion for UPGDCL, and also for UNITED Group. This is indeed a landmark for the “Visionaries” of the Company also. This Board is a fine mix of those “Visionaries”, the “Forerunners”, the “Trend Setters”, and those, who are the “Torchbearers”, pursuing the ” Vision”, and charting new courses.
UPGD has its purpose-built journey, as an inheritor of Malancho Holdings Ltd. Since then, the Board, which we term as “The Driving Platform” for the company, charted its course, always strategically poised, and remained focused is delivering the results expected of them. Being a listed company, its always remained forthright, in shareholders’ value addition.
Today, UPGDCL ha’s been transformed in to a premier power hub of the country, in the private sector, encompassing 08 Power Plants having total installed capacity of 895 MW. Its Market Capitalization now exceeds USD 1.50 billion, which remains as ample testimony, to the credentials of the Board of Directors as a whole.
On this occasion, we express our Gratitude to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala for HIS guidance and Barakah showered on the Board, and seek His continual blessings to grant our efforts and endeavor.
Congratulations UIU Mars Rover Team
UIU Mars Rover team from United International University has secured 13th place out of all 36 Finalists and 1st among the Asian teams in the prestigious University Rover Challenge (URC) 2022. The competition was organsed by the Mars Society and took place in the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in the southern Utah, USA. 36 teams from 10 different countries including USA, Poland, India, Bangladesh, Australia, Canada, Columbia, Egypt, Mexico and Turkiye compete in the grand final of the competition. During the three day final in 02-04 June, the teams performed four missions including science exploration, autonomous navigation, extreme terrain traversal and Equipment servicing mission to demonstrate the capabilities of their rover and operation skills. UIU Mars Rover successfully completed all four missions and represented the university along with the country with pride.

The UIU Mars Rover team from United International University (UIU) has been selected in the University Rover Challenge 2022 (URC 2022) organized by The Mars Society which is the most Prestigious Robotics competition for undergraduate students.
Among 99 Universities from all over the world, UIU scored an outstanding score of 90.92 out of 100 to be selected in the World Final. The Team will fight for glory in the World Final competing with the finest teams of the world at the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS), Utah, USA on 1-4 June 2022. The team was directly supervised by Akib Zaman, Lecturer from the Department of CSE, UIU.
The team will travel to MDRS with their developed Mars rover Prototype MAVEN and Mars aerial system prototype ICARUS to proudly represent the university and Bangladesh in the Upcoming World final of URC 2022. With the patronization of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of UIU Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman and the inspiration from all the well-wishers the team is motivated to demonstrate their best efforts in the desert of Southern Utah.

United International University’s (UIU) School of Business has received ACBSP, Global Business Accreditation, unconditionally, for 10 years. ACBSP is a globally recognized USA-based “Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs”. For the first time in Bangladesh, a university has received ACBSP accreditation without any Notes or Conditions.
To commemorate the achievement, United Group held an event on Wednesday, 27 November 2019 at Four Points by Sheraton. The Chairman of United Group, Mr. Hasan Mahmood Raja welcomed the officials of United International University to the event. The Vice Chancellor and Registrar of UIU along with senior members of the faculty and administration attended the ceremony. The Board of Directors of United Group also graced the occasion.
